Fishery and rural living

Fishery was the main income possibility of people lived by the lagoons for centuries. Today the small villages display the atmosphere of fishing and rural livehood: colourful wooden houses, fishing nets to be dried in the sun and small fishing boats floating at the lagoons.

The Vistula Lagoon Museum presents the history of the shipbuilding and fishing on the Vistula Lagoon. Some of the most interesting exhibits are: original shipbuildings' workshop from the Laszka around Sztutowo and animpressive, ten-metre longboat - fishing boat with the sails drive. The interesting fact is that it was still used for fishing in 1960's. Impressive is also complete shipbuilders' tools from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, including several planes used for wood working.

The Lagoon Museum is one of the most interesting sights in Ueckermünde. It is located in the castle right in the Old Town of Ueckermünde. The exhibition deals with pre- and early history in the region in and around Ueckermünde. You can find out how people in different times lived and worked with fishery and navigation.
